A Flirting Fiasco

(Some of the transcript I have detailed below, as well as information and links, and a bonus section that is not on the video.)

 

Dear Beautiful Homemakers and Gatekeepers of Your Home:

Imagine that you caught your husband flirting with another woman, and in response to your hurt he replies, “It’s just for fun!  It doesn’t mean anything.  It’s nothing against you.  I still love you.  But I see her everyday and it’s just fun to flirt a bit.”

Are you still hurt?  He didn’t mean any harm!  He just doesn’t know any better.  Even though you wrote him a long, heart-felt letter demonstrating your love for him, and expressing your hope that he will be true to you, he has simply forgotten.  In fact, your letter was so long and boring that he didn’t even finish reading it. 

But you’ll forgive him, right?  Even though he hasn’t asked for forgiveness and is going to keep on flirting because he doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

I imagine that is how God must feel when He finds you flirting with a horoscope.  You tell Him, “It’s just for fun!  It doesn’t mean anything.  It’s nothing against you.  I still love you.  But I see my horoscope everyday and it’s just fun to read it.”

Is He still hurt?  You didn’t mean any harm!  You just didn’t realize how much it hurts Him.

Even though He wrote you a long, heart-felt love letter telling you in several places not to practice divination, or interpret omens, or practice fortune-telling, you simply forgot that horoscopes were a practice He abhors.  Or maybe you never got around to reading his long and “boring” love letter and so never read the book of John where Christ says, “If you love me, keep my commandments,” or Deuteronomy 18:9-14:

 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there.  For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering [abortion]. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft,  or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.  Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you.  But you must be blameless before the Lord your God.  The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.”

But He’ll forgive you, right?  Even though you haven’t asked for forgiveness and are going to continue flirting with divination because you think it is fun.

Now you discover that your husband is no longer just flirting with that other woman, he is visiting her in her home!  Despite the fact that you two stood up in front of a crowd of 200 people and promised fidelity to each other on your wedding day, he is spending an hour each night with her to fulfill his selfish desire. 

You confront him and he tells you, “But she has my best interests at heart.  She is comforting me in my time of need and loss.  She’s not like the harlots mentioned in the book of Proverbs.  She has such a good heart!  She’s doing me a good service.  It’s nothing against you.  I still love you.  But she helps me more than you do.”

And that is how God must feel when you visit psychics, trying to find peace by contacting your dead loved one or trying to foretell the future.  Despite the fact that you stood up in front of a crowd of 200 people and promised to follow Him with all your heart upon your baptism, you are leaving His presence for an hour to fulfill your selfish desire.

You pick up your Bible on Sunday and read all about the Witch of Endor…the story confronts your guilty conscience and you retort, “But the medium has my best interests at heart!  She is comforting me in my time of need and loss.  She’s not like this witch mentioned in the book of Samuel.  She has such a good heart!  She’s doing me a good service.  It’s nothing against you.  I still love you.  But she helps me more than you do.”

 

When you dabble with divination, you open your life up to demonic interference.  God expressly prohibits divination, horoscopes, astrology, sorcery, mediums, and fortune telling, and so this would include the use of tarot cards, the Enneagram, and Ouija boards, crystals, SOZO, divining sticks, rods, or cards, familiar spirits, spirit animals, and the contacting of dead spirits (which is called necromancy in the Bible). When you think you are contacting or even feeling the presence of loved ones, you are being fooled. It is demons drawing you in. 

I wrote the above because I am hearing “baby” professing Christians mention that they engage with these occultic practices. I have tried to paint a word picture for these new believers who have not yet read their Bibles, and don’t seem to know about these occultic traps. If you are a mature believer, perhaps you can use this to help explain to new believers that to dabble with the occult is sin, and that God is grieved when you do so.

From the book Like a Roaring Lion, author George Otis says, on page 64: "...we want a marriage partner that is affectionate, trusting, patient, truthful, peaceable, constant, pleasant, and responsive.  So does our Lord.  Neither would we enjoy a flirtatious mate who would chase off after another.  Neither does God desire one who will flirt with false religions. Nor is He pleased when we make 'gods' of something in our life that interferes with our relationship with Him. Then, too, we desire affection and so does He.

"...let the Holy Spirit remold and groom you into a more suitable eternal Bride.  Let Him do it right there in the crucible of your earthly marriage."

Sin: it thrills, and then it kills. 

Sin: it fascinates, and then assassinates.

  How to Get Loose from Satan's Yoke

(Below are steps paraphrased from George Otis' book Like a Roaring Lion)

1. Identify the source - where did Satan get control over an area of your life?

2. Confess - name your sin for what it is! Don't make any excuses or call it by a euphemism.

3. Hate the thing which opened the door

4. Renounce it out loud. Call on Jesus! to command the entity to leave in Jesus' holy name.  You willingly let it in, and it will not leave until you command it to leave. It has to leave at your command in Jesus' name.  [I wish I had said the following on video - but it is much better to ask JESUS to command the entity to leave; however, I have known people who have simply said when feeling oppressed, "Leave me alone! Jesus help me!"  I used to have nightmares and would wake up at 3:00 am and say, "Jesus, renew my mind" and I was instantly able to fall into a peaceful sleep.]

5. Break off all former associations with anything tainted - friends, cult churches, bars, etc. Destroy all pamphlets, idols, posters, books, music, clothing, and any other paraphernalia that goes along with that sin.

6. Be loosed from the dominion of another person or spirit by praying aloud in Jesus' name. Ask Jesus to then renew your mind. Every time your mind drifts toward this sin, ask Jesus to save you from it and renew your mind. Do a physical action, such as an exercise - up on your toes, or arm curls, or just run to your prayer closet or kneel in prayer.

7. Fill that which is now empty - you must fill the void with the Holy Spirit.  This is done through prayer and reading your Bible.  Sing praises to God.  Fellowship regularly with other Christians (daily - phone calls, zoom calls, texts, CDs, DVDs, YT videos, and church services and events.  Just like a person who quits drinking replaces their old activities with AA meetings, you need to replace your "triggers" with Christian activities). Most Bible plans take 3 months, to read the New Testament, but you can do it in 30 days, or even in 7 days if you are determined to do so!  Fill that void!

8. Stand and withstand.  We are promised that if we resist the devil he will flee from us! The Holy Spirit can help you, when you call on Him for help.

Through Jesus' work on the cross you have traded spiritual impotency for triumphant living!

Remember that Jesus said we have to pick up our cross daily and follow Him.  The cross is an instrument of death.  Daily we need to die to ourselves and prayerfully ask God how He wants us to live.  We are to be a living sacrifice!  Let Him guide you.  Give your life to Christ and get baptized!  

Pray all day.  When you need something, or just praising Him.  Ask Him for help constantly, even with housework.  I get through every day with prayer.  My friends have kids with severe disabilities and they get through it daily by prayer. Taking up their cross, dying to Self, and being the best mother and wife and Christian that they can be in Jesus' strength.  

The Bible says that the Joy of the Lord is our strength.  We aren't going to be strong if we don't go to Him in prayer, first.

If you want to know about the future, you just need to go to the Bible. Let’s compare the first book of the Bible to the last. I found this comparison chart in the back of one of my grandfather's Bible:

Be sure you do not eliminate portions of the Bible, or take it too lightly. If you say that you cannot believe that Adam was the first man, that there was a world-wide flood, or that Jonah was swallowed by a great fish, remember that JESUS CHRIST Himself talks about these “unbelievable” things in the New Testament as Truth.

The book of Revelation mentions that there will be a separation of people who put their trust in Jesus, and those who do not. There will be two classes of people, having two destinies.

All prophecies in the Bible point toward Jesus, and it is in Him all prophecy is fulfilled. He alone is our savior. Apart from Him there is no hope. He says to all to come and take of the Water of Life freely (Rev. 22:17). The Holy Spirit says, “Come.” His Church says, “Come.” Everyone may join. A glorious world is ahead! Come, before it is too late. You must RSVP. The most important decision of your life needs to be made today.
